Two of the most popular resolutions made each and every year are to lose weight and get in shape. How many times have you added at least one of these goals to your list of yearly promises, only to find yourself committed to the challenge for just a few weeks? This year year you can actually achieve your resolutions by following a very simple and powerful daily exercise (and you will be happy to know it has nothing to do with lunges or squats)!!Positive affirmations are statements that affirm truth. By compiling and repeating a list of positive statements about your ability to control certain behaviors, to acknowledge your skills or assets, or to declare your personal self-worth, you may in fact be able to see a big difference in your weekly weigh-ins! A study by Dr. Hal Becker, behavioral scientist and former member of the Tulane University Medical Staff, has shown that patients enrolled in behavior-modification diet plans with positive subliminal messages (positive affirmations and other positive psychological behavioral techniques) lost significantly more weight than the control group, or those that did not receive the positive messaging. The study also concluded that the patients receiving positive messaging were able to maintain their weight loss longer than those that did not. Positive affirmations are a powerful psychological tool that has been proven to motivate individuals to reach challenging goals! They are simple to do and can actually be a ton of fun. Remember that your affirmations should be:
- Positive I-statements
- Short and specific
- In the present tense
Good luck !!!
